Citizens Committee on Mayor's
Climate Protection Agreement
Mission of the CPS is to (1) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage
City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to im-
plement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change

• Citizens: Cynthia Pruitt, David Schaefer, T.C. Richmond, Hank Landau, Lisa Herb,
Dawna Lahti
• Council Rep: Laura Johnson
• Staff: Kernen Lien
• Guests: Bryn Chighizola, Nancy Johnson (Sierra Club)
1. Call to Order, Review of Agenda, Introductions: The regular meeting of the
CPC was called to order at 8:30 am on a zoom video call initiated by the City. At-
tendees introduced themselves.
2. Approval of February 2021 meeting minutes: Unanimously approved with no
changes.
3. Announcement: Lisa Conley retired effective immediately. The committee will
decide on a co-chair replacement. Appreciation notes can be sent c/o T.C. Rich-
mond, 71 Pine St. #102, Edmonds, 98020.
4. Climate Action Plan: Kernen reported that 44 people participated in the Febru-
ary online open house. These numbers are comparable to previous in -person
open houses. Comments:
a. T.C. — polling kept people engaged, synthesis on website
b. Cynthia — webinar seems isolating, tools need to be maximized
Upcoming workshop: via zoom with break-outs. Property owners will receive
postcard for upcoming 3/25/21 workshop; possibly include the video of February
open house. Stakeholders will receive email newsletter. Draft of 3/25 workshop
was shared. Will use Housing Commission notification process for survey which
will be sent out right after workshop. Committee shared ideas for workshop:
a. Mark Johnson should use as many visuals as possible
b. Slides for break-out groups
c. Send letter to the editor one week prior to workshop. Cynthia offered to
d raft
d. Committee can disperse signs to businesses promoting workshop
e. Hank will see if Woodway is interested in being notified of climate webi-
nars/workshops/events. He will also check to see if we can post on their
community bulletin boards
5. Council Report: CM Laura Johnson thanked committee for wording changes for
the tree code which passed.
6. Announcements and Other: None
7. Public Comment: Nancy Johnson said that the Sierra Club is interested in help-
ing in any way it can. Bryn Chighizola suggested that the public outreach mes-
sage should be simplified and solution oriented; the website should use con-
sistent wording of strategies or solutions,
8. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am
