AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTIONS 20.10.030(1) and 20.10.030(6)(b)
OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO AUTHORIZE THE
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN BOARD TO APPROVE THE
LOCATION OF SIGNS.
WHEREAS, the present Sign Code prohibits signs from
extending above the roof line of the building supporting the
sign, and
WHEREAS, some businesses have found that this require-
ment is either not practical or is not in the interest of the
public safety, and
WHEREAS, the location of a sign is a matter of
aesthetics and thus should be subject to review by the Archi-
tectural Design Board, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the following
amendment is in the best interest of the public health, safety,
aesthetics and general welfare, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 20.10.030(1) of the Edmonds City
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"20.10.030. General Regulations.
1. Architectural Design Board (ADB) Review of
Signs. All signs, except temporary and/or incidental
signs, shall be subject to review and approval by the
ADB prior to issuance of the permit as set forth in
Section 20.10.120 of the Edmonds City Code and
installation. In reviewing the design of the

total signage of a site, the ADB, pursuant to the
criteria set forth in Chapter 12.20 of the Edmonds
City Code, shall approve the number, location and
type of signs to be permitted and may reduce or
increase the allowable signage, sign area and/or
sign height from the maximums otherwise permitted."
Section 2. Section 20.10.030(6)(b) of the Edmonds
City Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"b. Except as otherwise allowed by the ADB, attached
signs and wall signs shall not extend above the roof
line of the building supporting the sign."
Section 3. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect five (5) days after passage and publication by posting
as provided by law.
