AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 1.36.020 OF THE EDMONDS CITY
CODE TO SPECIFY THE DUTIES OF THE DIRECTOR OF
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND CREATING THE PLANNING
DIVISION AND BUILDING DIVISION WITHIN THE
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT; ADDING A NEW
SECTION 1.36.021 TO THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO
CREATE THE OFFICES OF PLANNING DIVISION MANAGER
AND BUILDING OFFICIAL AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE
METHOD OF THEIR APPOINTMENT; AMENDING SECTION
1.36.025 OF THE ED14ONDS CITY CODE TO SPECIFY THE
MANNER OF ESTABLISHING THE SALARY OF THE DIRECTOR
OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, THE PLANNING DIVISION
MANAGER AND THE BUILDING OFFICIAL; ADDING A NEW
SECTION 1.32.040 TO THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO
CREATE THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND
.RECREATION AND DEFINING DUTIES.
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that reorgan-
izing the currently existing Community Development Department
will facilitate service to the public and will thus be in the
best interests of the citizens of Edmonds, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 1.36.020 of the Edmonds City Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"1.36.020 DUTIES
The Director of Community Development shall direct the operations
of the Community Development Department, in addition to such other
duties as may be assigned by the Mayor. The Community Development
Department shall consist of the Planning Division and the Building
Division."
Section 2. A new Section 1.36.021 is hereby added to
the Edmonds City Code to read as follows:
"1.36.021 ASSISTANTS
The offices of Planning Division Manager and Building Official are
hereby created. Said positions shall be under the supervision of
the Director of Community Development, The Planning Division

Manager and Building Official shall be appointed by the Mayor,
subject to confirmation by the City Council, and shall serve at
the pleasure of the Mayor. The Planning Division Manager shall
direct the operations of the Planning Division in addition to such
other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Community
Development. The Building Official shall direct the operations
of the Building Division in addition to such other duties as may
be assigned by the Director of Community Development."
Section 3. Section 1.36.025 of the Edmonds City Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"1.36.025 SALARY
The Director of Community Development, the Planning Division Manager
and the Building Official shall receive salaries in such amout as
the City Council may from time to time establish by ordinance."
Section 4. A new Section 1.32.040 is hereby added to
the Edmonds City Code to read as follows:
"1.32.040 PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT - DIRECTOR
A. There is hereby created the office of the Director of Parks
and Recreation which shall be filled by appointment by the
Mayor, subject to confirmation by the City Council, and who
shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.
B. The Director of Parks and Recreation shall direct the Parks
and Recreation Department, in addition to such other duties
as may be assigned by the Mayor."
Section 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect five (5) days after passage and publication by posting as
provided by law.
