Ordinance 26100006.07007 WSS/ci 03/03/87 ORDINANCE 2610 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF ECDC 19.75.150 RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF HYDRANTS (PRIVATE), PARAGRAPH (D) SPACING IN ORDER TO PROVIDE FOR A PERIMETER LINE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF HYDRANTS WITHIN 50 FEET FROM ANY AFFECTED STRUCTURE AND FIXING THE TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE. WHEREAS, the current City ordinance provides for placement of private fire hydrant along a perimeter line 500 feet from an affected building, and WHEREAS, said distance is unrealistic and tactically unsound given the demands of the fire service and, therefore, it is in the best interest of the public self safety and welfare that said distance be reduced from 500 to 50 feet, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. ECDC 19.75.150 Location of Hydrants (Private), subparagraph (C) Minimum Standards, is hereby amended to read as follows: 19.75.150 LOCATION OF HYDRANTS (PRIVATE). D. Spacing. Fire hydrants shall be spaced on an average 300 feet around the perimeter line, 50 feet out of the buildings. All hydrants shall be placed in a location accessible to Fire Department vehicles or where there are roads. The Fire Chief shall determine the location of fire hydrants depending on utility, topography and building location for maximum fire protection. - 1 - Section 2. This ordinance, being an administrative action, is not subject to referendum and shall take effect five (5) days after publication.
