Ordinance 26220006.13006 WSS/naa 05/29/87 WSS50037O R:06/08/87 ORDINANCE NO. 2622 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, FIXING COUNCIL SALARIES, REPEALING ORDINANCE NOS. 2512 AND 2389 AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds deems it appropriate to provide an increase in salary for its members commensorate with that received for similar positions in other cities, and WHEREAS, Article XI, Section 8, and Article XXX, Section 1, of the Washington State Constitution, as well as RCW Title 35A prohibit a city council from increasing the salary of any of its members during their term of office, and WHEREAS, the Council wishes therefore to provide for increased salary levels with varying effective dates complying with said statute, NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. City Councilmembers assuming office on or after January 1, 1988, shall receive a salary of $300 per month, plus $50 per Council meeting attended, provided, however, that all persons holding office as a Councilmember at the date this ordinance is enacted shall continue to receive that salary established by Ordinance No. 2512 of $200 per month, plus $45 per Council meeting attended for the remainder of their unexpired term. Section 2. The Council president shall receive a salary of $100 per month in addition to the salary received as a City Councilmember. Section 3. Ordinance Nos. 2512 and 2389, to the extent and inconsistent with this ordinance, are hereby repealed. Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect following January 5, 1988, said date being more than thirty days (30) after passage and publication as provided by law. The City Clerk is authorized to publish the summary of this ordinance, appended hereto and incorporated by this reference as fully as if herein set forth, said summary being specifically approved at the passage of this ordinance.
