Ordinance 1828ORDINANCE NO. 1828 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 4.72 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO REQUIRE AN ANNUAL BUSINESS LICENSE COMMENCING JANUARY 1, 1977; ESTABLISHING FEES FOR SAID LICENSES; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR FAILURE TO TIMELY OBTAIN SUCH A LICENSE; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF SAID ORDINANCE OF JANUARY 1, 1977. WHEREAS, it is necessary for the public health, safety and general welfare for a municipality to be apprised of the nature and type of business operations being conducted within its corporate limits in order to facilitate proper application of police and fire protective services together with the other general services provided by a municipality, and WHEREAS, an annually renewable business license provides an efficient and effective way to provide the information necessary to properly allocate the services of the city and provide other information for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of said city, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 4.72.040 of the Edmonds City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "4.72.040. Fee--Terms--Penalty. Commencing January 1, 1977, business licenses required to be obtained pursuant to this chapter, shall be issued on a calendar year basis and shall expire on December 31st of the year for which they are issued. 1. Fees for the annual license issued hereunder shall be as follows: a. Licenses for businesses required to obtain a home occupation permit pursuant to Chapter 12.13 of the Edmonds City Code shall be ten and no/100 dollars ($10.00) per year; b. Fees for businesses that have employees that work more than a total of one hundred twenty (120) man months per year shall be fifty and no/100 dollars ($50.00) per year; C. All other businesses required to have an annual license hereunder shall pay a fee of fifteen and no/100dollars ($15."00) per year. 2. All businesses required to obtain license hereunder shall obtain the same and pay all fees required therefore on or before February 15th of each respective year. Any business which fails to obtain and pay the license fees within said period of time shall, in addition to any other penalties provided in this chapter, be assessed an amount equal to fifty percent ( 50 0 ) of the license fee for said business as a penalty for such late application and/or payment. 3. Any business required to obtain a license under this chapter which does not commence business on or before July 31st of a given calendar year shall pay only one-half of the annual license fee for that year and upon such payment shall be issued a license for the remaining portion of said calendar year." Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect on January 1, 1977. APPROVED: MAYOR, H. H.
