AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 6.20.020 OF THE EDMONDS CITY
CODE BY INCREASING THE CHARGE FOR WATER CONSUMED
IN EXCESS OF 500 CUBIC FEET FROM 40 CENTS PER
100 CUBIC FEET TO 48 CENTS PER 100 CUBIC FEET.
WHEREAS, the City's water supplier, Alderwood
Water District and the City of Seattle, have imposed
additional charges for peak demand during heavy consump-
tion periods, and
WHEREAS, in order to minimize this peak demand
charge improvements consisting of an additional storage
tank capacity, pumps and flow controls are required, and
WHEREAS, extensive analysis of projected water
revenues indicate that the present rates are insufficient
to cover operating expenses, present debt service and
needed capital improvements, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 6.20.020 of the Edmonds City Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6.20.020 Water Rates - Meter Installation Charges.
1. Monthly Rates for 500 Cubic Feet or Less.
The minimum monthly rates for 500 cubic feet of
water or less supplied through meters are hereby
fixed as follows:

2. Excess Charaes.
All water consumed in excess of 500 cubic feet
shall be charged to the consumer at the rate of
48 cents per 100 cubic feet.
3. Meter Installation Charges.
A new service line and meter installation charges
are hereby fixed as follows:

Cost of street restoration (all surfaced streets)
to be added to any meter installation charge
where applicable.
When approved by the city engineer, new service
lines installed by developer on plats shall be credited
as follows:

4. Surcharge.
Upon installation or replacement with a six inch
or greater size cast iron water main or equiva-
lent a monthly surcharge of three dollars shall
be added to the monthly metered rate of present
and future benefited customers.

5. Connection Charge.
A connection charge of two hundred dollars
shall be made to each new customer connecting
to the city water system except for the water
mains installed under Local Improvement District
Nos. 115, 146 and 152.
6. All rates set forth in this section shall be
exclusive of any applicable taxes.
Section 2. The effective date of this Ordinance as
to the increased charges levied herein for water in excess
of 500 cubic feet shall take effect as of January 1, 1978.
