ORDINANCE NO. 2195
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASH-
INGTON, REPEALING SECTION 2.10.040 OF THE
EDMONDS CITY CODE AND ENACTING A NEW SEC-
TION 2.10.040 IN THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO
CREATE THE OFFICE OF PLANNING DEPARTMENT
DIRECTOR AND SPECIFYING THE DUTIES THEREOF;
AMENDING SECTION 2.10.042 OF THE EDMONDS
CITY CODE TO ELIMINATE THE OFFICE OF PLAN-
NING DIVISION MANAGER AND SPECIFYING THE
DUTIES OF THE BUILDING OFFICIAL; AMENDING
SECTION 2.10.043 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE
REALTING TO THE SALARY OF PLANNING DEPART-
MENT DIRECTOR AND BUILDING OFFICIAL;
AMENDING SECTION 2.10.044 OF THE EDMONDS
CITY CODE TO SPECIFY THAT REFERENCES TO
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SHALL
MEAN THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR OR
DESIGNEE; AND REPEALING SECTIONS 2.10.041
AND 2.10.045 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE.
WHEREAS, the City Council finds the following
organization of the current Department of Community Develop-
ment will be in the best interests of the public health,
safety and general welfare, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 2.10.040 of the Edmonds City
Code is hereby repealed and a new Section 2.10.040 added to
read as follows:
"2.10.040 PLANNING DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR CREATED - DUTIES
A. There is created the office of Planning Department
Director which shall be filed by appointment by the
Mayor, subject to confirmation by the City Council, and
who shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.
B. The Planning Department Director shall direct the
Planning Department in addition to such other duties as
may be assigned by the Mayor.
C. The Planning Department Director shall have the custom-
ary duties of the City planner, including but not
limited to advising and making recommendations to the
City Council, Planning Advisory Board, and such other
boards and bodies within the City of Edmonds requesting
and needing assistance; consulting with and advising
other City officials regarding planning matters and
coordination of the interrelated parts thereof with
primary emphasis on various comprehensive plans of the
City, zoning, planning and subdivision, comprehensive
street plans, utilities and park development; and such
other matters as from time to time may be directed by
the City Council and/or the Mayor."
Section 2. Section 2.10.042 of the Edmonds City
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.10.042 BUILDING OFFICIAL
The office of Building Official is hereby created which
shall be filed by appointment by the Mayor, subject to
confirmation by the City Council and who shall serve at the
pleasure of the Mayor. The Building Official shall be under
the supervision of the Planning Department Director and
shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the Planning
Department Director."
Section 3. Section 2.10.043 of the Edmonds City
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.10.043 SALARY
The Planning Department Director and the Building Official
shall receive salaries in such amount as the City Council
may from time to time establish by ordinance."
Section 4. Section 2.10.044 of the Edmonds City
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.10.044 REFERENCES TO DIRECTOR OF COMMUNTIY DEVELOPMENT
Wherever references are made in the Edmonds City Code or any
ordinance of the City to the Director of Community Develop-
ment, said reference shall hereafter be construed to mean
the Planning Department Director or designee."
Section 5. Section 2.10.041 and Section 2.10.045
are hereby repealed.

Section 6. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect five (5) days after passage and publication by
posting as provided by law.
