ORDINANCE NO. 2247
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASH-
INGTON, AMENDING SECTION 8.16.030 OF THE
EDMONDS CITY CODE TO CLARIFY AN EXISTING
AMBIGUITY THEREBY EXTENDING A SPEED LIMIT
ON 9TH AVENUE SOUTH TO THE CITY LIMITS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds,
Washington finds that Section 8.16.030 of the Edmonds City Code
makes an ambiguous reference in subsection 3 to "Westgate" to
describe the southernmost limit of the thirty mile per hour
speed limit zone on 9th Avenue South; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said ambiguity
interferes with the enforcement of such speed restriction on
this portion of 9th Avenue South; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would serve
the best interest of the City of Edmonds if the thirty mile per
hour speed restriction on 9th Avenue South is extended from
Dayton Street to 232nd St. S.W., the present limits of the City
of Edmonds, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 8.16.030 of the Edmonds City Code
is hereby amended as follows:
"8.16.030 INCREASING SPEED LIMIT IN CERTAIN AREAS
It is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic
investigation that the speed permitted by state law upon the

following streets is less than is necessary for safe operation
of vehicles thereon by reason of the designation and
signposting of the streets as arterial highways and by reason
of widely spaced intersections and it is declared that the
speed limit shall be as hereinafter set forth on those streets
or parts of streets designated in this section at the times
specified when signs are erected giving notice thereof, but in
no case shall the speed limit exceed thirty-five miles per
hour, except with approval of state highway commission.
