Climate Protection Agreement
Mission of the CPS is to (7) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage
City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to im-
plement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change

1. Call to Order, Review of Agenda, & Introductions: The regular meeting of the
CPC was called to order at 8:30 am on a zoom video call initiated by the City.
2. Approval of May 2021 meeting minutes: Approved with one corrections, Greg
Ferguson added as guest.
Group recognized Shane Hope for all her commitment to the sense of priority to
climate issues. This is her last meeting, she is retiring at the end of June.
3. CPC Governance: Discussed rotating leadership of the group. Cynthia provided a
job description —
a. Facilitate during meeting
b. Keep track of City due dates for agenda and minutes
c. Develop agenda
d. Guest speaker recruitment
Bryn voiced willingness to continue in the role with help. Shane volunteered her
department would remain committed to working with the group. Kernen will take
lead. T.C. will help with agenda by phone starting next month
Shane spoke with Mayor Nelson, he would like to keep the group at 7-8 mem-
bers. Mayor's office will initiate announcement of vacancies. David suggested that
a small business owner (but not a science -denier) would be a good addition to
the group.
4. CPC Mission: Primary focus is to encourage public participation in city engage-
ment with CAP. Group members will attend the open house. Secondary, encour-
age city to keep tracking emission data, monitor CAP and trade, improve city
transport and ongoing efforts within city to conserve and change to cleaner en-
ergy. David proposed that the group could introduce new ideas to the city while
the CAP is being updated..
5. City Report: Kernen reported on CAP survey;
a. Approximately 400 responses
b. 600 hard copies of the survey were mailed out and 100 were returned
c. Most people learned of the survey from the post card mailing which went
out to 6000 addresses
The answers will be collated by next week. Mark Johnson will be drafting the
CAP over the summer and will provide report to CPC later this summer.
Kernen will provide targeted outreach with stakeholders and has already met
with PSE and the Youth Commission. Survey results will be coming and posted
on the City website once summary is completed. Cynthia suggested email
check -in with each other in one week once this info it out.
New code writer has been hired by city and is working on standards for elec-
tric vehicle charger stations and bicycle storage to be required with new
commercial and multi -family developments. Currently being briefed to the
Planning Board and the Council later this summer. David asked if there is a
role the group can play in this process; letters to the editor around August
and October. Hank & T.C. will work together. T.C. will plan to watch the Plan-
ning Board meeting.
Shane reported on Housing Commission and new tree code.
6. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am
Next Meeting: July 7, 2027 @ 8:30 am
