Subject: Pile inspection for the residence at ,44 8th Ave N. Edmonds WA
Pile driving inspections were performed on 12/27/2016 and 12/29/2016. Pile driving
procedure and equipment was observed on a number of piles, and depth drive was
verified on these piles.
Refusal criteria for the equipment used is 3 seconds per inch for the 3" dia piles, and 4
seconds per inch for the 4" dia piles. The piles were marked at 4" intervals to facilitate
timing of the driving rate. Piles were driven until two consultative measurements
exceeding the min. time for the 4" interval was achieved. 10 out of 52 piles were
randomly tested (19 percent). All of seven the 4" dia piles tested exceeded the min (from
19 to 30 seconds for 4"). Of the three 3" dia piles test, two repeated 3 seconds per inch
several times, and one was over 5 sec/in. All the remaining piles were confirmed to reach
this driven rate by the property owner and the equipment operators.
Pile depths ranged from about 42 ft to 74 ft (see attached log).
Based on this sampling and quality of observed procedure, all piles are acceptable with
significant redundancy and large safety factors.
It is okay to proceed with installation of the grade beam foundation.
