Old Business: Memorial Day 2021 Planning
• Posters - Kim reported that she had gotten the posters finished and printed up. She showed us an
example and it was awesome! Ashley reported that she and her daughter, Ellis, have already
distributed 25 posters throughout the Edmonds downtown area. She will also take a poster to the
Saturday Market this Saturday. Joan said she would find out the best place to display a poster at
Edmonds Community College and let Ashley know.
Programs - Melissa, Betty, and Tracy have worked together and produced a great program for the
drive -through event. We were shown a sample at the meeting. Melissa and Tracy will have the
Branding Iron print up 250 programs. Betty announced that she will cover the expense of printing the
programs. A big thank you to Betty!
Poppies - Melissa reported that the Lynnwood VFW #8870 is donating the poppies and brochures
about the poppies to the board for the Memorial Day drive -through event. She has them now. The VFW
said if anyone wants to make a donation, that would be great, but they made it very clear that the
poppies and brochures are a donation. If any individuals want to make a donation to the VFW, they can
do so at: www.vfw8870.oEg. We will be putting this information and a thank you to the Lynnwood
VFW on the programs. We will also send them a thank you card.
Flags - Cliff will not be at the cemetery on Memorial Day. His helper, Cole, will put up the flags. Some
of the board members will come early on Memorial Day to also help put out the flags. Rich and Tracy
will work out putting up Tracy's flag, which she is loaning for the day.
Publicity - Betty has written an article which is being published in My Edmonds News. Mount Lake
Terrace News, and Lynnwood Today. Jerry will have an article in this week's Beacon newspapers in
Edmonds, Mount Lake Terrace, and Lynnwood. Kim reported that information about the Memorial Day
drive -through will appear in the Parks and Rec social pages (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and will also
appear again next week. Jerry has taken care of having this information also put on Channel 21. Jerry
will also announce the event at the next Edmonds council meeting (May 25th). Kim reported that the
city's print shop - Edmonds Sign Shop - has made up a banner which is 8 feet by 3 feet. She will take
care of hanging the banner on the fence outside the cemetery along 1001h/91n.
Memorial Day Event - We discussed where we will all be positioned during the drive -through, and
what each of our jobs will be. We will all arrive at the cemetery by 10am - earlier for those that can
help put out flags. Angie reiterated that we must check the city's COVID guidelines just before the
event, as things can change. We will all wear masks.
New Business:
Walk Back in Time - Betty reported on 5 people who are buried in the cemetery, who died of the
influenza of 1918. These 5 people will be featured at this year's Walk Back in Time event. Also, Betty
will be here for this event! More planning and discussion for this event will be on the agenda for our
next board meeting in June.
Announcements:
• Kerry announced that she will be out of town on June 17th, and may not be able to remotely attend our
next board meeting, which is on this day. Melissa volunteered to take the minutes if Kerry can't attend.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 5:22pm.
Next Meeting: Our next regular board meeting is at 4pm, Thursday, June 17, 2021, via Zoom.
