2021-07-01 Citizens Climate Protection Committee MinCity of Edmonds - Mayors Climate Protection Committee ("CPC") Meeting Minutes July 1, 2021 Citizens Committee on Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement Mission of the CPS is to (7) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to im- plement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change In Attendance via zoom video call / phone: • Citizens: T.0 Richmond, Bryn Chighizola, Lisa Herb, Hank Landau, David Schaefer, Cynthia Pruitt, Dawna Lahti • Council Rep: • Staff: Kernen Lien • Guests: Brook Roberts 1. Call to Order, Review of Agenda, & Introductions: The regular meeting of the CPC was called to order at 8:30 am on a zoom video call initiated by the City. 2. Approval of June 2021 meeting minutes: Approved with no corrections 3. City Report: Kernen reported on results of CAP survey. Much of the discussion focused on what actions respondents were already taking to minimize climate change and what actions respondents were willing to do. The CPC noticed that several actions that would be fairly easy actions to implement were not chosen. The CPC discussed what they could do to encourage people to simple actions to address climate change. The CPC decided to draft an op-ed piece on the survey results and encourage individual actions one can take. Cynthia, Bryn, Lisa & T.C. volunteered to work on the op-ed with assistance Kernen also gave an update on the latest amendments to the tree code adopted by the code which included a process for when a development could meet the retention re- quirements, established a cap on the fee -in -lieu program and exception from the fee -in - lieu requirements altogether if at least 50% of the significant trees are retained. 4.
