A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON
RECOGNIZING JUNE 2021AS PRIDE MONTH AND CELEBRATING OURLESBIAN, GAY,
BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, QUEER, QUESTIONING, INTERSEX, ASEXUAL, GENDER
NON -CONFORMING, PANSEXUAL, AND 2 SPIRIT (LGBTQ+) COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, Edmonds strives to be an inclusive community committed to celebrating diversity
and welcomes all people; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Pride Month is held each June to commemorate the anniversary of the
Stonewall Rebellion in New York City on June 28, 1969, marking the beginning of the
LGBTQ+ rights movement; and
WHEREAS, despite national progress, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face
discrimination, harassment, hate crimes, hate speech, violence, disparities in healthcare,
housing and employment, and the denial of basic human rights; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQ+ community continues to be vulnerable to violence, homelessness and
death and in recognition of the fact that LGBTQ+ youth are at a much greater risk of
suicide than their peers and, further, that the UCLA Williams institute indicates sexual
minority adults are twice as likely as the general population to have experienced
homelessness in their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Edmonds is grateful for the contributions that the LGBTQ+ community as made to
the city and supports the LGBTQ+ community and its allies in their work to make
Edmonds a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse place to live, work, and play; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Edmonds Mayor and City Council hereby
recognize June 2021 as Pride Month in Edmonds and affirm that LGBTQ+ rights are
human rights.
FURTHERMORE, please join the city of Edmonds to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, support
community members who identify as LGBTQ+, and celebrate the contributions that they
make to our city.
RESOLVED this 15th day of June 2021.
