Citizens Committee on Mayor's
Climate Protection Agreement
Mission of the CPS is to (7) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage
City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to im-
plement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change

1. Call to Order, Review of Agenda, & Introductions:
2. Approval of June 2021 meeting minutes: Approved with minor change to final para-
graph, 2n1 line "code" should be "council".
3. Check -in with Mayor Nelson:
a. Discussed ban of natural gas by Cities and environmentalists
i. Requested committee look at "what would new electrification look like?
How can we transition to it?
ii. DS — easiest to make changes in new construction, are there code chang-
es in the pipeline?
b. Ways to incentivize home -solar
i. How much per year will Cot be reduced by one home getting solar?
ii. HL — solar panels imbedded in roads
iii. RK — batteries are the weak link in renewable energy
iv. LJ — solar -voltaic glazing on windows
c. Charging stations
i. HL —these should accommodate bikes
ii. RK — city provide info about home installation and clarify permitting
d. T.C. suggested a website or series of webinars — budget? Kernen said City of
Shoreline educational program was $35,000
e. Must study success of other cities as first step
f. Wrap-up:
i. Reviewed Mayor's requests of Committee
ii. Robert Knoll will provide updates at 9/2/2021 meeting
iii. Mark Johnson will attend 9/2/2021 meeting
iv. Recommended review of goals
4. City Report: Kernen
a. Op-ed approved and will be sent out by end of week
b. Checking on availability of a share -point site for Committee to submit documents
for all to read. Cynthia will check into this as well. LJ would like to provide needed
links.
5. City Council Report: Laura Johnson
a. City receiving Federal funds for stormwater, rain gardens
b. Committee members should take PROS Plan survey
c. Urban Forestry Management position recruitment
6. Other City Actions: put off
