The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Board Member Frank Caruso via Zoom
meeting, Edmonds, WA.

CALL TO ORDER:
Frank Caruso called the meeting to order (approximately 18:05), reading the Land Acknowledgment Statement
ROLL CALL:
A few board members were absent (Barbara Chase, Doug Petersen, Suzanne Juergensen)
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
Agenda approved with the additions of Bill adding: what are other local communities doing regarding retaining their
trees, discussion of meeting in -person.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes from 06/03/2021 meeting approved with some corrections noted.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
No audience members present
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Tree tags: Donna and Brian- with help from Bill Phipps, we are going to highlight tree groves, also look into a
permanent sign like at Blythe Park in Bothell, however there is the process through Frances Anderson Arts
Commission, Parks and Recreation. Diane emailed and we will look at this in the future.
B. Edmonds in Bloom: Suzanne (absent) but we know that it is scheduled for July 181" 11-4 and former member Gail
Lovell was working on it as well as Barbara Chase.
C. Questions about how other cities' Tree Boards and their role in the community. Bill is looking into this for future
meetings
NEW BUSINESS:
a. October tree planting event? Possibly an event at Hutt Park, Meadowdale Park, Shell Creek, City Park, etc. Ivy
pulling and rain gardens were discussed.
b. Bill brought up hearing from other communities and how they protect their trees.
TREE BOARD MEMBERS IDEAS/COMMENTS:
Discussion about the Heritage Tree Programs, the stresses on trees in native forests versus urban forests, discussion
about life spans of trees in native forests versus urban forests and trees in a growing in a grove. Noted: trees do a lot
better when they can communicate with one another.
Discussion about "Plant Amnesty, flexible design in code(s), and low impact development.
