2021-10-07 Citizens Climate Protection Committee MinCity of Edmonds - Mayors Climate Protection Committee ("CPC") Meeting Minutes October 7, 2021 Citizens Committee on Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement Mission of the CPS is to (7) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to im- plement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change In Attendance via zoom video call / phone: • Committee Members: Bryn Chighizola, Cynthia Pruitt, David Schaefer, Hank Landau • Council Rep: Absent • Staff: Kernen Lien, Deb Powers • Guests: Suzy Oversee, Laura Zorick, Greg Ferguson 1. Call to Order; Review and approval of Agenda; Introductions 2. Check -in: a. September meeting minutes were approved with no changes b. All committee members should be checking their City emails once a week. Due to difficulty of some in accessing their City email, Kernen will request a cheat sheet from IT for accessing city email and request a share point folder for the CPC c. Written by Hank; most of the committee members have not seen it yet so needs further review. Intent is to publish prior to CPC open house. Cynthia will review for grammar. Consensus, best to submit personally rather than through commit- tee or Mayoral process. 3. Mayor Nelson Project Request: CPC discussed the projects proposed by Mayor Nelson for the CPC. Some concern was expressed regarding the level of work that would be necessary and whether that was appropriate for a volunteer advisory board. CPC dis- cussed establishing committees that could work on the two projects. 4. City Report: The Climate Action Plan update is rolling again after being stalled over the summer. Staff on consultants are seeing if we can have the next public engagement be- fore Thanksgiving. If the window cannot be met, the next stage of public engagement will be pushed to early 2022. It was noted that the new Development Services Director would start in November. 5. City Council Report: None. 6. Guest Speaker: Suzy Oversee and Laura Zorick — PUD Green team Suzy Oversee and Laura Zorick provided a presentation to the CPC on PUD operations and incentives to costumers. PUD is a national leader with 95-98% carbon free power providing affordable -reliable power. All of PUD hydro facilities are located above fish blockages. Transportation electrification is a big push at the moment with educational programs and incentives to customer including a $500 credit for electric vehicle charging station installations. Customers can join programs with PUD to purchase carbon free power, such as the City of Edmonds has done over the last couple of years.
