The opportunity to talk with you for a minute on Monday evening after the SR524
session did not present itself so Itm choosing this means of contact to you
and to express my appreciation for the position you and your Department take,
especially on the matter of sidewalk location West of Olympic Avenue.
By locating.the sidewalk on the South side we do away with the necessity of walk-
ing across the road intersection at Olympic View Drive. The less breaks we have
to contend with the more desireable for jogging and of course for the older folks
like my wife and I. If people are encouraged by the availability of good facilities
they will be more apt to use them. Examples Seldom do we see pedestrians on,
Main Street because of the steepness of the grade and one would have to be half
mountain goat to make it up the hill from my corner to 88th . However, we all
know that there is some justification for this inasmuch as the kids can get off
the highway when they Have to push their bikes back up the hill.
In the eleven years wetve lived here we have become well acquainted with our
neighbors across the road, especially Mri, Burt and the Roger'Hertrick Family.
We on this side value our trees s.nd would hate to have them destroyed. To quote
from the well known poem TRH by Edna St. Vincent Millay, °I think that I shall
never eee a poem as lovely as a TREE"-. We likewise appreciate the fact that the
people across the road value their hedges etc. It would be great if, after the
final song is sung (after twelve years of struggling with the problem) we could
settle for a two lane with 6t pull off on the N. eide and 61 plus curb, plus
sidewalk plus slope easement on the South side.
In closing I might mention that I have been retired for ten years, spend many,
many hours in my family room which has sweeping view of Sound and Mts. (and Hi-.
way) . I have yet to see a child injured at the Olympic View crossing and as
far as I know, there is on record in .Edmonds only one car collision at that
corner. The cars pile up in the South lane travelling East J#� fr'om ninth -
this only at the time the Ferry disgorges its passengers. Irve counted up to
thirty at different time and so we hope the holding lane will run from Olympic
View drive at least as far West as ninth.
The next time you have occasion to be in our vicinity please stop in and we
can get acquainted.
