ROLL CALL: Roll call was taken. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The Agenda was approved. There was no audience in attendance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The May 6, 2021 meeting notes were approved with corrections. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: There was no audience in attendance. OLD BUSINESS: Trees for the Earth Day planting (4/24) were not just conifers, there were deciduous trees planted as well. There had been a problem with May's meeting notes. Changes needed to be made to have them approved. Bill was responsible for those notes. The changes were made and sent to the Board. We will be working with Edmonds in Bloom on tree identification. Setting up a visit for 6/5/21. Suzanne and Bill will coordinate. Follow up with Save Shoreline Trees. Urge everyone to check out their website, see what they're doing because they visited the Tree Board in May and the Tree Board was impressed. Many felt it was inspiring to see the citizens of Shoreline taking it upon themselves to protect their arboreal resources. Barbara provided a recap of her outreach to Edmonds Elementary. She followed up with the teacher she worked with before, Jennifer Anderson. Barbara had purchased a watering bag for a tree they've already planted to slowly water it throughout the summer. The teacher told Barbara about a pine in the courtyard of the school that looks good at the top but not as healthy down below. Barbara will follow up about the pine tree to see what the teacher is looking for. NEW BUSINESS: Barbara wanted to know if there was any way we can partner with the school district more for future plantings? No one was sure who to reach out to. Debra and Barbara discussed former tree plantings and looked for what was successful and what wasn't. Anecdote about a maple was planted in a park and wasn't treated well. After bringing up the Earth Day plantings, the Tree Board again reiterated the importance of Students Saving Salmon organization. Frank asked about how the plantings were doing near Holy Rosary. The Tree Board recognized the damage that the mountain beaver can wreak on those plantings. Diane asked Debra on where we are on the Street Trees program? Debra said it's on her to do list but that she's been really busy. Gail used to take over that for the Board. Bill wanted to know if the city was hiring a code writer to write the second part of the Tree Code? Diane thought Kernen was leading that. Debra believed that they're looking for an urban forestry person. Bill wanted to know about the tree canopy code and it was discerned that the new person would cover that. We were informed that Director Hope is retiring and everyone recognized the great job she'd been doing. TREE BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
