2021-03-31 Civil Service Commission MinutesEDMONDS CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING Specially Called Meeting March 31, 2021 Commissioners present: Mike Fields Norm Davis Chris Flek Others present: Assistant Police Chief, Don Anderson Secretary and Chief Examiner, Jessica Neill Hoyson HR Analyst, Emily Wagener Acting Police Chief, Michelle Bennett 1. Call to Order Chair Mike Fields called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. 2. Introduction of Acting Chief Bennet Chair Fields indicated the commission would be skipping this item as Acting Police Chief Michelle Bennett was not yet on the call. At about 6:10 PM Acting Police Chief Michelle Bennett joined the Zoom session. The commission went around and introduced themselves. There was some discussion about the commission and longevity of members. 3. Correspondence The commission confirmed there was no correspondence to review/discuss. 4. ADDroval of meeting minutes — 2/3/2021 Commissioner Chris Flek moved approval of the minutes. Commissioner Norm Davis seconded the motion. The motion carried. 5. POLICE BUSINESS a-i. Review/Approval of the Academy Certified Eligibility List Assistant Police Chief Don Anderson explained that the only change to the list was the addition of the third candidate who is currently in background. Commissioner Flek asked if the list was ready to approve and 1 6. New Business Chair Fields confirmed that there was no new business to discuss but thanked Assistant Police Chief Anderson for his service and wished him well in his retirement. 7. Other Secretary and Chief Examiner Neill Hoyson said that we will not need a meeting in April due to the current meeting being held so close to the regular April meeting date. Secretary and Chief Examiner Neill Hoyson continued that the commission's next regular meeting is set for May 5, 2021. Secretary and Chief Examiner Neill Hoyson asked how many current vacancies the police department currently had in Police Officers. Assistant Police Chief Anderson indicated 8-9 vacancies after his final day. Acting Police Chief Michelle Bennett further confirmed that she showed 9 vacancies. Secretary and Chief Examiner Neill Hoyson asked how many candidates were in process for hire. Assistant Police Chief Anderson confirmed that only the one discussed tonight from the Academy Certified list at this point. Assistant Police Chief Anderson continued that Sergeant McClure has been busy with the department accreditation process but will have more time to devote to recruitment efforts in the near future, hopefully moving the department forward in the recruitment process to fill vacancies.
