I. CALL TO ORDER
Co -Chairman Koleb Nichols motioned to call the meeting to order at 6:00 pm in Room
123 in the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds
Secretary Owen Lee seconded that motion
Motion passed unanimously
Co -Chairman Koleb Nichols moved to add "PUBLIC COMMENT" to our agenda
Owen Lee seconded that motion
Motion passed unanimously
II. MINUTES - Approval of 11/20/19
Co -Chairman Koleb Nichols moved to approve 11/20/19 meeting's minutes with no
revisions
Jacob Sawyer seconded that motion
Motion passed unanimously
Secretary read the Native American Land Statement
III. WHAT'S CITY COUNCIL COVERING?
- Shannon proposed reading My Edmonds News council meeting recaps instead of
watching full three hour videos
- Our new council meeting groups will be:

1st: Kaleb, Sydney, Caitlin, Emily
3rd: Jacob, Owen, Cole, Alissa
- 4th: Brook, Stephany, Caroline
- No new information about housing for a while
Train trying to get more offsite parking
- Struggling to find funding
- Lots of consumer support
- Patrick Doherty proposed putting money for waterfront connector into Aurora
improvements
New waterfront center trying to get LEAD gold certified
- Increasing blanket utility rates
IV. FORUM LOGISTICS
- We need people to show up at 2:30 to help set up (including people who can't come
right now)
- Went over supply list
- We want 10 pizzas again
- More cheese pizzas
- 30 minutes for breakdown
- Wearing vests again
- We all got packets with flyers
- We need to get flyers at other schools

CLIMATE STRIKE! Exciting
- Clark Park in Everett
- Unexcused absence but it's really cool
- Can the Youth Commission set up a walkout or strike?
- Most likely, we can support one but not plan one
In Washington: ethnic education will be required for grades 7-12, encouraged to
incorporate it in all classes; Holocaust education could become mandatory by 2020
- Vaccine exemptions related to personal beliefs being revoked
Statute of limitations for sexual assault has been lengthened
If you're 16 or 17, starting on July 1st, you can get on a pre -registration voter list
Car tabs initiative blocked
- All landlords need to provide 60 days notice before raising rent
Should we investigate how the McCleary decision is viewed at other schools?
Lots of orca activity
Statewide exams are no longer required for graduation

- Enjoyed lively discussion and learning as part of the Youth Commission
- How do youth get involved?
- For recruitment, have to be Grade 9-12 or equivalent age
- Application process, we select from applicants
- Have to reside within Edmonds city limits
- Also attending events we put on
- Also attending meetings

- Is there a Lynnwood version of this?
- No
- There are some in other cities, and you can start one in your city!
- Kaleb and Stephany drafted ordinance, spent 6-8 months drafting
ordinance, presented it to City Council, City Council approved it
- Troops can make announcements about city events
