REVIEWING DRAFT OF PRESENTATION TO COUNCIL
The Youth Commission is set to present to the City Council during the June 15th Edmonds City
Council meeting, starting at 7 pm. Here, the Youth Commission is reviewing a draft of the
presentation for further edits before the final presentation. Below are a list of key notes that the
Youth Commissioners made to edit to the presentation.
Changing the front page, from "Yearly Report" to "Annual Report".
Review updated Youth Commission ordinance, focusing on removing summer meetings
under the 'organization' topic. Also mention that meetings were shifted from the 1st &
3rd Wednesdays of each month to the 2nd & 4th.
On the front page, we could include a screenshot from one of the Youth Commission's
zoom meetings with everyone's camera turned on.
To recap: Owen, Sydney, Jacob, Audrey, Finn, and Brooke will be presenting this review
to the City Council. All of these members will need to be present at the next Youth
Commission meeting.

IV. COMMITTEE MEETINGS
The Youth Commission's committees (Diversity, Youth & Government, Mental Health, and
Environment) met between 6:30 and 7:10 pm to brainstorm projects to finish before the end of
this Youth Commission session and projects that could be worked on over the summer.
V. COMMITTEE UPDATES
Environment: Completing research on information about recycling codes, how to become more
environmentally friendly, focusing on Instagram posts and education (with chance to put
resources on Youth Commission website).
o Note: Stock photos are fine to use as long as there is no copyright or watermark on the
image. Background removers are also helpful.
Mental Health: Finalized list of about 30 mental health resources that deal with population -
specific mental health issues. These will be posted on the Youth Commission website.
o Note: All resources to post on the Youth Commission website should be sent to Casey.
She will post them.
o Mental Health Committee meeting with JoAnna Rockwood could be helpful to save the
Commission time and answer more questions. Casey will need to be the bridge to set
the meeting up.
D Youth & Government: Focusing on the Intro to Municipal Government project, but are also
focused on a potential Youth Court (based on Bothell's model) and bringing it to Edmonds.
Another idea was holding our forums not in the Downtown area, but up in the Highway 99 area,
to make them more accessible, when we return to the in -person meeting format. These projects
will be split between the end of this year and the beginning of next.
Diversity & Equity: Hoping to meet and build connections with different individuals within
Edmonds regarding how they've ensured that different communities are represented in critical
discussions (Councilmember Laura Johnson, Alicia Crank, Mindy Woods). Also discussed
reaching out to student groups (BSU, AAPI, etc.) at local high schools and connecting them with
the Youth Commission.
VI. FINAL COMMENTS
Casey: The City of Edmonds is hiring for paid summer jobs right now. Please check them out at:
https://www.government*obs.com/careers/edmondswa.
Owen: Send Instagram highlight videos. They will be done from position 11 to 1. There will also
be a post about Youth Commission committees and a contact for each committee. Please select
one contact person for each committee.
Brook: Because the majority of members will be graduating this year and next, we need to focus
on recruitment. We could do this through a special meeting later this summer.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Owen Lee adjourned the meeting at 7:30 pm.
