IV. PRESENTATION TO COUNCIL REVIEW
➢ Everyone said it went great!
➢ City council loved it
➢ Councilmember Johnson: Our presentation skills match or even exceed those of other
commissions
➢ One council member mentioned that we need to continue to make sure that everyone
on the commission still lives in Edmonds (since increasing school diversity can be hard
while maintaining this requirement)
o Living in Edmonds is one of our eligibility requirements

V. SENIOR CELEBRATION TIME
➢ No seniors were present at the moment
➢ Owen: Congratulations to all of our departing seniors! Thank you for serving on the
Edmonds Youth Commission!
VI. RECRUITMENT PLANNING
➢ Use Facebook (lots of parents will see it this way)
➢ Use Instagram (lots of kids will see it this way)
o Good to post a flyer as a shareable post
■ That way people kind repost it to their own Instagram stories and send it
to friends
➢ Going directly to schools
o Announcements
■ Contact the teacher who runs announcements
o Possible recruitment table at lunches?
■ Hard logistically
• Schools have multiple lunches
• Unlikely that people would actually walk up to the table
o Find a teacher who encourages kids to be politically active and have them spread
the word to their students
o School clubs
■ Hard to contact them because their presidents change every year;
instead, contact the teacher advisor
➢ Contact different youth groups in the community (such as queer youth groups)
VII. SUMMER RETREAT PLANNING
➢ Tentative Date: Wednesday, July 28th. 2021
o Need to figure out a time and confirm this date with commissioners
➢ It would be outside at a park
➢ What would take place?
o Discussion about recruitment
o Talk about what has been going on in the city during summer
o Fun games/icebreakers for team bonding
o Food (using funds)
o Canva/Instagram graphics workshop
➢ Owen: Can we invite seniors?
o Casey will ask
■ It would be fun to have some seniors join us again
➢ Do special meetings have to be open to the public?
Page 1.1.3
o Casey will check with city clerk
➢ Pause on figuring out date until we check our calendars and summer plans
o We will coordinate and confirm the date and time later through GroupMe
VIII. COMMITTEE MEETING TIME
➢ Committees met in Breakout Rooms from 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm
➢ Committee updates:
o Diversity Committee
■ Made and will post a pride post
■ Will make Instagram stories with the City Council news about Juneteenth
and AAPI
■ Sent text to Sydney for committee introduction post
o Environmental Committee
■ Made a post about what we can recycle in Edmonds
• Includes a link to the Edmonds City Website, which gives details
about the three waste management providers of Edmonds
o Includes another link to a sight with a good graphic about
recycling
• Fun recycling graphics
■ Will send text to Sydney for committee introduction post
o Youth in Government Committee
■ Drafted plans for next year:
• Wrote mission:
o Increase youth engagement in municipal government and
elections
o They will do this through youth leadership and
engagement
o Projects:
■ Municipal government project
• Infographics about city government, how
officials are elected, when elections take
place, who to contact about issues, what
power each branch of city government has
■ Edmonds Youth Court
• Still need to do research before
implementing it
■ Planning on doing a survey about youth related
policies
■ Hoping to create youth forums for next year
Page 1.1.4

of the committee was present
