PUBLIC COMMENT
Jacob Sawyer —happy to be here and able to meet. I've never been to the hatchery before and
it's good to see you all in person.
MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS
Ran through this ice breaker. Create a circle with one member in the middle. Each person
around the circle marked their spot with a pile of pinecones. The person in the middle says
something they like or enjoy phrased as "I want to meet all my neighbors who "
Then each person in the circle that enjoys that as well moves and must find another spot. If they
do not find a spot they are now in the middle and say the phrase with something they like or
enjoy. Commissioners had fun with this moving around and getting to know each other better.
MOVIE PROPOSAL COMPETITION
Members were divided into two teams to come up with a movie pitch in 5 minutes. Then they
had to pitch it to Owen and Casey. Jacob and Brooke worked on a pitch called "Fast 1776" and
Sydney and Finn worked on a pitch called "Funky Ferry". After a close match up Sydney and Finn
won with "Funky Ferry" that was place based in Edmonds and showed a lot of teamwork while
presenting it.
V. CANVA TRAINING & SOCIAL MEDIA DISCUSSION
Page 1.1.2
Owen led a canva training session showing members how to create social media content inside
this design app. Each member was asked to design a recruitment flyer to post to the Youth
Commission Instagram account. Applications and reference forms will be available September
1" and due September 22"d
VI. BREAK
Had some snacks and walked down the short nature trail to willow creek.
VII. COMMITTEE SUMMER PLANNING TIME
This was removed since there was not enough people present from each committee to use this
time to plan effectively.
INSTEAD —Commission briefly discussed the meeting and My Edmonds News article about the
report incidents of bias, discrimination and hate portal on the city of Edmonds website.
Commission members felt that it was a very intense reaction. They felt that no matter how the
citizens felt about it there was a way to politely and civilly engage to get your point across
without being rude or crass.
The commissioners didn't see why it was such a controversial item since there will be no action
taken unless there is a crime reported and it asks that there are no names placed in it. There will
not be disciplinary action if a business is reported it's just to see how many incidents are
occurring. Knowing that there is discrimination, hate and bias in our community the
commissioners felt it was comforting to have a place where these could be reported.
VIII. RECRUITMENT PLANNING
The applications will open September 15t and close on September 22"d. It's important to try to
get some younger youth to apply since all Commission members currently will graduate in June
2022. Will be posting to IG, Facebook, press release, flyers in schools, E-flyer from the school
district, ran a graphic at the two outdoor movies, should be compiling a list of ASB contacts to
send the information to as well.
X. FINAL COMMENTS
Reorganizing the leadership team. No longer will there be a treasurer position but instead there
will be a social media manager.
XI. ADJORNMENT
Chair Owen Lee adjourned the meeting at 10:40 am.
