Owen Lee moved to approve the minutes with one revision. Seconded by Julie Andres. The
motion passed unanimously.
IV. PANCAKES VS WAFFLES ICEBREAKER
The commission played a brief icebreaker game. We discovered that Jay finds sushi more
vital than water.
V. OTHER COMMITTEE PRESENTATIONS
Breakout rooms were created for each commission to plan one solid goal to achieve
from now until June. The Youth & Government committee is working on establishing the
first ever Edmonds city Youth Court. The Mental Health committee is working on
updating and reorganizing mental health resources on the Edmonds city website. A
secondary goal is hosting a zoom meeting where a therapist or psychologist can address
general youth mental health problems. The Environmental Committee is planning on
attending the Earth Day beach cleanup event and volunteering in the following weeks.
VI. ATTENDING OTHER COMMISSION MEETINGS
Owen listed other various commissions in the area. Attending other commissions'
meetings could be useful to:
a. Figure out how we want to run the youth commission in the future
b. Gain a general awareness of problems in the area
Brooke expressed interest in the cemetery board. Julie looked at the Edmonds
Downtown Business Improvement District. Aaron looked through the Sister City
Commission. He found that they try to connect with the Edmonds Sister City in Japan.
The Youth Commission members expressed interest in attending. Mara looked into the
Art Commission and the Tree Board. Audrey looked at the Historic Preservation
Commission. She found that it's difficult to find what some of the commissions do.
Sydney looked at the Tree Board and expressed interest in how they reach out to
citizens. Sam looked at the Diversity Commission's film series and the Economic
Development Commission. Owen looked at the disability board and found it was
specifically focused on police, firefighters, and medicare.
Commissions that EYC is interested in engaging with:
➢ Diversity Commission
➢ Sister City Commission
➢ Tree Board
➢ Planning Board
VII. EARTH DAY 2022
The Youth Commission found that it may be most useful to help facilitate the event
rather than focus on participation.
VIII. COMMISSION CHECK -IN
EYC broke out into pairs in breakout rooms and gathered three representative words
that show what they have in common with each other and two ways they are different
as an icebreaker.
IX. 10 YEAR PLAN ENGAGEMENT
Owen planned to send out information on the food bank volunteer opportunity and the
Planning Board meetings.
Owen moved to revise the agenda to end the meeting at 10:15. Seconded by Mara Yenter.
Motion passed unanimously.
X. FINAL COMMENTS
Jay mentioned that EYC may not be a good fit for Chelsea. Jay is planning to reach out
and possibly reopen that position and find a new member.
XI. ADJOURNMENT
Owen Lee adjourned the meeting at 10:15 AM.
