2022-02-03 Citizens Climate Protection Committee MinCity of Edmonds - Mayors Climate Protection Committee ("CPC") Meeting Minutes February 3, 2022 Mission of the CPC is to (7) Encourage citizens to be a part of the solution, (2) Encourage City staff and citizens to conserve current resources, (3) Work with the City Council to implement ideas, and (4) Effectively address the future impacts of climate change In Attendance via zoom video call / phone: • Committee Members: Bryn Chighizola, Cynthia Pruitt, Dawna Lahti, David Schaefer • Council Rep: Susan Paine • Staff: Kernen Lien and Sarah Brinkley • Guests: Greg Ferguson, Patricia Townsend (WSU), Jerilynn (WSU) 1. Call to Order, Review of Agenda, & Introductions: 2. Check -in: a. Meeting minutes approved with one correction: Item #2 b second to last sen- tence — Hand should be Hank. b. CPC recruitment: Mayor authorized i. Possible recruitment: High school students; more diversity (CM Chen pos- sible contact); Church pastors of minority communities; Chamber of Commerce; Luke Distelhorst (Verdant connection); College students in Edmonds area; IB student Holden Lang (HS senior environmental engineer — Bryn will email); Korean COC; Hispanic groups ii. Flyer: for hand distribution to potential committee candidates iii. Bryn will organize new ideas sent to her c. PROS plan email — letter will be sent out 3. City Report a. Shared folder invitation on city email b. March goal for CAP draft C. 4. Climate Champions Project Brainstorming a. Kernen provided background. Mid -summer implementation b. Focus on youth and under -represented communities (without pressure on these communities); virtually vs in person. Combine with CAP. c. If youth audience, involve Ashley Hall of 4-H and WSU youth coordinator. d. Bryn can provide slide with goals e. Past/present/future — Native American (past); Elected officials (governor and oth- er high lever speakers) (present; Youth (future) f. Change behavior for collective good — motivators, people get excited about see- ing good success; competition is a good motivator g. Youth often push (example: Students Saving Salmon) h. Hospital big player i. PCC Market j. Educate staff, good practices, show them off k. CAP should guide I. Measurements? m. Climate tool for focus n. Relate to CAP o. Action oriented p.
