1. Recognized Properties Not on Register — Chair Doyon discussed a draft proposal she had shared with
the Commission regarding a second register for properties that might not have the integrity to be on the register
or a potential alternative for heritage signage. Vice Chair Vogel was very supportive of the idea of a second
honorary register to recognized historically significant and interesting properties that do not necessarily fit the
strict criteria of the register. Commissioner Raetzloff was also very supportive. The Commission informally
discussed various sites in the community that could be included on this list. There was a desire to add a page on
the Historic Preservation Commission section of the website dedicated to this. Ms. Szafran indicated she would
investigate the feasibility of adding a page for this. Vice Chair offered to come up with some sample content
that might be included. Commissioner Kelly expressed concern that working on this alternative list might take
efforts away from getting sites on the register. There was some talk about having it be more of a storytelling
and educational effort regarding cultural contributions to the community as opposed to an official list. Chair
Doyon also suggested promoting the benefits of the register through the second list.
2. Newsletter: Preservationist Resurrection — Chair Doyon solicited ideas about what to include in some
of the empty spaces in the newsletter. She suggested incorporating some educational information about the
value of preservation in general. Vice Chair Vogel also noted they could add information about the new list/page N
they want to create and talk about the benefits of being on the register. 3
3. Walking Tour — Vice Chair Vogel reported he had talked to several people and got support for using 4-
the market as a launch point. Commissioner Kelly suggested starting at the museum and having signs about 0
tours at the market.
