A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, TO ACCEPT A MONETARY
DONATION FROM THE ESTATE OF JOHN A. GOFFETTE.
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds has received notice that the Department of Parks and
Recreation is a beneficiary of the Last Will and Testament of John A. Goffette; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 3.45 of the Edmonds city code regulates the acceptance of donations
to the City; and
WHEREAS, ECC 3.45.030 provides that "[a]ll monetary and nonmonetary donations
with a current value of up to $10,000 may be approved and accepted for the city by the mayor.
All donations with a value greater than $10,000 must be approved by the city council before
acceptance"; and
WHEREAS, the Estate of John A. Goffette has provided the city with a donation in the
amount of Two Million Eight Hundred Eighty -Four Thousand Six Hundred Fifteen Dollars and
Thirty -Eight Cents ($2,884,615.38); and
WHEREAS, the City Council, after review and discussion, has determined that it is in the
best interests of the city to approve the acceptance of the donation on behalf of the city;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals. The recitals set forth above are hereby incorporated by reference as if
set forth fully herein.
Section 2. Acceptance o Donation. The acceptance of the donation in the amount of
$2,884,615.38 from the Estate of John A. Goffette is approved and such donation will, to
the extent reasonably feasible, be used consistent with the donor's desired use.
Section 3. Severabilit . If any one or more sections, subsections, or sentences of this
Resolution are held to be unconstitutional or invalid, such decision shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portion of this Resolution and the same shall remain in full force
and effect.
