Background/History
A retirement on the Arts Commission left Position #2 vacant. A call for candidates was sent out to the
local media. The Commission received 3 applications. They interviewed all 3 candidates and landed on
Tanya Sharp as the best candidate for the position.
Staff Recommendation
Recommending appointment of Tanya Sharp to Position #2 of the Arts Commission.
Narrative
The Arts Commission recommended Tanya Sharp to Mayor Earling to fill Position #2 of the Arts
Commission left vacant by a retirement. After review of Tanya's application and resume, Mayor Earling
met with Tanya to discuss her qualifications and ability to serve on the Commission. After their meeting,
Mayor Earling feels confident that Tanya will make an excellent addition to the Arts Commission and is
recommending her appointment to the Commission.

in Fine Arts from Western Washington University in 1995 and a minor in Art History. I have been
practicing graphic, web, and user experience design professionally from many well known local companies.

May 2008 - April 2010
I designed the next generation of performance and talent development software, which shifted
from a very complex, locally installed product to an easy to use online service (SAAS). As a result
more customers subscribed to SumTotal Performance and responded positively due to the ease of
use. I worked on every aspect of the development cycle from early brainstorming to full-fledged
product implementation work, working closely with product management and engineering
defining the functional specification, doing graphics production and sitting down with the
developers and spending lots of time on bugs in Quality Center. Gathered customer feedback
through usability studies, focus groups and surveys. Worked with a team spread over different
locations and time zones including Gainesville, FL, Bellevue, WA and Hyderabad, India. I lead the
integration of a UX process into the product development process, which allowed for clear
communication throughout the teams and flow of deliverables from UX to development.
Developed future user experience vision and presented it to senior management. These visions
were then presented to current users in a usability -testing environment and implemented into
future releases.
MSFT (MSN Video) April 2007 - April 2008
Position: Senior UI/Product Designer
Designed user experiences for MSN Video and internal tools. Utilized customer feedback to create
and improve feature sets, as well as competitive research, which determined the future redesign of
the site. Experience included documentation and presentation materials, research, information
architecture and wire diagrams, new site maps, creative design, creation of prototypes, user
testing, mentoring of interns and working with project management and development to release
