Background/History
Laura Otto applied to be a Commissioner on the Sister City Commission. After reviewing her application
Mayor Earling interviewed Laura for one of the open positions on the Commission.

Recommending appointment of Laura Braithwaite Otto to the Sister City Commission.
Narrative
Laura has experience with other Sister City programs and has a great skill -set that will make her an asset
to the Commission.

Occupational status and background:I am an HR Generalist at Optimum Energy and have been working in the FIR field
for the past four years. I recieved my BA in Economics and MBA in Public Administration from Willamette University. I
specialize in employee relations, community outreach, event management and mission driven engagement.
Organizational affiliations: Seattle Society of Human Resource Managers - Director of Logistics (planning
educational programming and community outreach events), Seattle Area Delta Gamma - Director of
Collegiate Relations, Willamette University Alumni Association.
Why are you seeking this appointment? I moved to Edmonds, Washington a little over a year ago and have been desiring to be
more involved in the community. I was the equivilant of a Sister City Ambassodor in my hometown of Huntington Beach, CA to
Auckland, New Zealand, and would love to assist the City of Edmonds in building a program with Hekanin, Japan.
What skills and knowledge do you have to meet the selection criteria? I was involved as an ambassador in another
Sister City program, and plan current outreach events and educational programming for Seattle SHRM-
