ROLL CALL & ABSENCES Brook Roberts moved to call the meeting to order at 6:03 PM over Zoom. Aaron read the land acknowledgment statement. I�_j�]:Z��9el��]ySH�I►UJeI Brook moved to cut out agenda items 5 and 6 and add three new agenda items: a catch-up chat with Casey, committee meeting time, and earth day planning meeting. Seconded by Sam. Motion passed unanimously. III. APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA ➢ Commission Retreat Meeting Minutes of March 9, 2022 Brook moved to approve the minutes. Seconded by Sam. The motion passed unanimously. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT VIA ZOOM No members of the public present. V. UPDATE WITH CASEY Casey inquired about attending Diversity Commission meetings; Brook noted that there is no current attendance from youth commissioners, but it is to be addressed later in today's meeting. Brook mentioned creating Instagram updates to increase public participation. Casey requested meeting minutes from the Youth Commission retreat; Brook sent them over. Casey reiterated the meeting norms previously decided upon. 1�/�d�I►�iIPiI�����JiI���I►[��IPiI� Sam joined the Environmental Committee meeting to help brainstorm for Earth Day. The Youth & Government and Environmental committees went into breakout rooms for 35 minutes - there were not enough commissioners present for the Mental Health or Diversity committees to meet. VII. EARTH DAY PLANNING MEETING The Youth Commission is planning to help with the beach cleanup portion of Earth Day volunteering. The Environmental Committee reviewed the Media Release for Earth Day 2022 work parties and created an Instagram infographic post for Earth Day volunteering. Brooke asked to be added to the discussions with Jennifer Leach, and Casey agreed to start an Earth Day conversation with her over email. Brooke highly encouraged members of other committees to join in the Earth Day volunteering. The commission discussed utilizing the tables we are stationed at during Earth Day to spread information on recycling and the environment. Councilmember Buckshnis suggested having mental health flyers out. Brooke suggested collecting donations to plant trees and offering free food as an incentive to help. VIII. FOOD BANK VOLUNTEERING REFLECTION Members present from each committee reflected on their experience volunteering at the Edmonds food bank. Overall consensus from Sam, Aaron, Audrey and Brooke was that it was very straightforward, not difficult, and went by fast. The commission members who attended enjoyed their time. Councilmember Buckshnis noted that some volunteers at the food bank appreciate the help from Youth Commission members. IV. SIGNUPGENIUS COMMITTEE MEETINGS CHECK -IN Brook shared the schedule for outside committee meetings and mentioned he is creating a SignUpGenius for commission members to attend outside meetings. He reiterated the importance of showing up once one commits to attending. Brooke suggested attaching the Zoom link to Youth Commission meetings to Instagram stories on meeting nights to increase public comment engagement. X. IN -PERSON COMMISSION MEETINGS DISCUSSION Casey announced that the Youth Commission is now able to meet in person if unanimously agreed upon by all members and staff members. It was agreed upon that all members should be present before any decisions are made on whether meetings should be in person or not. Additionally, masks are not required by the Frances Anderson Center, where potential commission meetings would be held. Brook inquired about whether it would be possible for the Youth Commission to agree on mandatory mask -wearing during meetings; Casey stated that she would need to check if that is possible. Brooke noted that attendance may be more difficult with in -person meetings. Further discussion was postponed to a future meeting. XI. FINAL COMMENTS Casey voiced her happiness to be back and more involved with the Youth Commission, as well as her appreciation for the youth commissioners' volunteer work. Councilmember Buckshnis echoed this appreciation. Brook discussed that the Youth and Government Committee + Sam are attending a Youth Court Conference on Saturday, March 26. XII. ADJOURNMENT Brook Roberts adjourned the meeting at 7:29 PM.
