ICEBREAKER The Youth Commission, Casey, and Diane caught up with their favorite things they did this summer as well as what they're most looking forward to in the school year. V. REVIEW OF EXPECTATIONS AS A COMMISSIONER • 4-10 hours/month commitment • Keep in mind emails and meeting minutes are public record • Keep in mind we are representative of the Youth Commission • Anything we do must travel through Casey and Shannon up the chain of communication • Respect each other, city staff & officials, and members of the public VI. DISCUSSION ABOUT CITY FLAG PROJECT A student approached the mayor with the prospective idea of redesigning the city flag. Although we can't vote until we have a quorum, it is a possible project to look into in the future for the Youth Commission. VII. DVS PREVENTION WORKSHOP WITH OLIVIA - IS THIS OF INTEREST? Another possible project is hosting a forum or workshop all about relationships and preventing domestic violence. The commissioners expressed interest. The next steps would be to pick a date and figure out what to present. Casey briefly explained the process of running a Youth Commission forum. VIII. RECRUITMENT - EXTENSION OF DEADLINE? Casey discussed extending the application deadline to ensure all positions are filled in a somewhat competitive pool. The Youth Commission decided to extend the deadline to September 26 and focus on reposting Instagram content and try to advertise within our schools. IX. FINAL COMMENTS Mara mentioned whether she should be in the same committee as last year. This raised a question on whether the Youth Commission should have the same committees or as many committees; this may be further discussed when we have full membership. Sam mentioned tracking down Brook Roberts' Youth Guide to Government if possible. Casey suggested posting something for Hispanic Heritage Month if anyone is willing to tackle it within the day. Sophie suggested mentioning "CAS Hours Available" on the EYC posters. Sam agreed to fill the secretary position until an official one is elected, and the commission agreed to have Casey serve as temporary chair. X. ADJOURNMENT Casey adjourned the meeting at 7:01 PM.
