2022-11-23 Youth Commission MinutesYouth Commission Meeting Minutes 11/23/2022 Commission Members Present: Eemaan Bhatia Joanna Na Sophie Gerdes Mariana Yenter Julie Andres Joelle Walworth (late) Lucy Lakefish (late) Staff Present: Casey Colley Councilmembers Present: Diane Buckshnis I. ROLL CALL & ABSENCES Eemaan moved to call the meeting to order at 6:03 PM. Joelle read the land acknowledgment statement. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Eemman made a motion to approve this week's agenda; no alterations. Seconded by Joelle. The motion passed unanimously. III. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES Eemman moved to approve the minutes. Seconded by Julie. The motion passed unanimously. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT No members of the public present. V. CREATE INSTAGRAM POST CALENDAR Discussed about having one more person to help with social media: Julie Ideas for instagram post: 1) Tree lighting event (on instagram story) 2) Heritage month 3) Mental health resources 4) Study resources - provide students free resources or tutoring sites 5) Dressember - help spread awareness about a world issue by committing to the challenge of wearing dresses all month Addressed canva profiles. Sophie brought up the idea of doing a fundraiser during final week at local coffee shops. Resume talk about fundraising for the next meeting with everyone. VI. EYC VIDEO DISCUSSION Need to have plot, dialog, director etc. for EYC video Discussed what topic the video should be about: global warming? Need everyone to discuss more about filming. Resume video discussion next meeting with everyone. VII. YOUTH POLL DISCUSSION/PLANNING The commission planned what the youth poll should be about and what youth commissioners are interested in; also brainstormed about how we can format it. Joelle brought up the idea of making it into QR code. Poll needs to be anonymous (doesn't have to be very specific- middle school or high school) Question ideas: 1) What is your age? 2) Do you reside in the city of Edmonds? 3) What do you want to see in your community 4) What opportunities, courses, or classes would you like to see for youth in Edmonds? 5) What topics would you like to see discussed in a youth form? Joelle made poll; send to commissioners through email VIII. DVS REFLECTION DVS stands for Domestic Violence Services. The commision talked about what healthy and toxic relationships look like at the last meeting and how to help. Instagram post about DVS to spread awareness and invite DVS people at the end of January and do a workshop. Also talked about what topics to discuss (diversity, mental health, climate change, DVS, homeless problem, gun violence, LGBTQ+ etc.) IX. FINAL COMMENT There are 11 members but instagram is limited to have 10 pictures for each post; separate new members and returning members. Need updated waiver for photos from Julie, Mara, Charlie, and Sam. Bio for city webpage and insta post (canva) need to be done. Note from Casey: Please respond to messages on groupme and email!
