2022-09-08 Historic Preservation Commission MinutesCITY OF EDMONDS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Summary Minutes of Virtual Meeting September 8, 2022 CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL Vice Chair Vogel called the meeting of the Edmonds Historic Preservation Commission to order at 5:35 p.m. Commissioners Present Larry Vogel (Vice Chair) Chris Deiner-Karr Katie Kelly David Preston Tim Raetzloff Sam Spencer Jeremy Mitchell Commissioners Absent Annie Doyon (Chair) Staff Present Manager Michele Szafran, Planner Others Present None Ms. Szafran gave an update about progress for appointing a new council liaison position with the loss of Kristiana Johnson. She also reported that staff has moved forward with the code update to have the number of board members revised which will take effect next month. The number is currently eight members until the number is reduced by someone leaving or their term being up. Then they will shift to seven members. MINUTES: Approval of June 9, 2022 HPC Minutes The June 9, 2022 HPC minutes were approved as presented. AGENDA ADDITIONS/CHANGES None. REQUESTS FROM THE AUDIENCE Historic Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes September 8, 2022 Pagel of 2 There were no audience comments. NEW BUSINESS None. The Creative District is seeking to appoint one (1) volunteer — Board Member Spencer volunteered to be the liaison with the Creative District. Board Member Preston offered to be the alternate. Vice Chair Vogel will send a letter of introduction to the Creative District. 2. Walking Tour — Vice Chair Vogel said he will look into linking up with the holiday markets. Historic Calendar —Vice Chair Vogel will send a file template to Board Member Deiner-Karr. There were suggestions to have the theme possibly be "Vignettes of Edmonds Past" of "Teenage Mayhem" and have each board member contribute content by the first week of October. Vice Chair Vogel shared an example of an old school bus and a brief story that goes along with it. There was some discussion about ideas for other months. 4. Subcommittees: a) Register Properties b) Non -register Properties — Board Member Deiner-Karr suggested going through the list to see what is still viable and prioritize the properties. There was consensus to table this project until the new year. Preservationist Newsletter — Vice Chair Vogel gave an update. ACTION ITEMS • Vice Chair Vogel will send a letter of introduction to the Creative Distirct. • Each Board Member should provide two pictures and a related story/facts to go with each for the calendar by the first week in October. COMMISSION CHAIR COMMENTS Vice Chair Vogel asked Ms. Szafran to reach out to Chair Doyon to see where she is. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Board Member Preston commented regarding the huge loss of Kristiana Johnson. Board members concurred. Board Member Mitchell stated he was new to the Board and to Edmonds but happy to be part of this group. He offered to help with the desktop publishing of the calendar if needed.
