ROLL CALL & ABSENCES Councilmembers Present: Vivian Olsen Sam moved to call the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Charlie read the land acknowledgment statement. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Sam made a motion to approve this week's agenda; no alterations. Seconded by Joelle and Charlie. The motion passed unanimously. III. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 22, 2023 Sam moved to approve the minutes. Seconded by Joelle. The motion passed unanimously. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT No public comments V. DIVERSITY COMMISSION REPORT - Jessie Owens came to our meeting to talk about the diversity commission. They accomplished: diversity film series, fourth of July parade, DEI inclusive language toolkit, lunar new year, MLK Day event support, Juneteenth collaboration, and pride month parade. Policy Committee Accomplishments: participated in REDI description, edmonds homeless recommendation, district based council positions recommendation etc... 2023 priorities (future): 1. Engage with city council and community partners 2. Communicate through new and renewed channels 3. Educate ourselves and the community through meetings and events. Name change: DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) - Looking for a representative from the youth commission - to identify opportunities to address diversity issues, promote diversity programs and provide guidance to create a more accessible, safe, and inclusive community. Use instagram to promote. VI. MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION REFLECTION - There were a lot of people. - She mentioned the May book project which is getting more and more diverse books to our school (more books with Asian representations). - They talked about Asian representation and elementary school. VII. DISCUSSION OF FUTURE PROJECTS - Talked about what we are going to do in the future. - April and May - we should make a presentation for the report to the council. - We can do something with survey results. - We should make more classes and programs for youth, Volunteer opportunities (ex. Beach cleanup, hiking) - June 14th: last meeting - Voted for clean up day; Result: May 20th (around 11-2pm) - We can join city council meetings in the future - look at the agenda package before the meeting and if there's something we're interested in we can attend. - We have to focus on what's happening in our local community. VIII. FINAL FORUM & SURVEY TAKEAWAYS - How can we use information we collected to help youth? - School therapist and academic counselor separation. - Commissioners can go to meetings and present our ideas and show info we collected. - We should get rough draft of what we're going to say in the meeting VIX. FINAL COMMENTS - Sam: wants to have more work time at the next meeting. - Casey: please respond or react to messages on GroupMe and emails. X. ADJOURNMENT Sam adjourned the meeting at 7:29 PM.
