B. Roberts -Salary Commission Application
Why are you seeking this appointment?
I am seeking a role on the Salary Commission because I am deeply committed to promoting fairness,
transparency, and equity in compensation practices within our Community. Throughout my professional
journey and community involvement, I have witnessed the impact that salary decisions can have on
individuals, families, and the overall well-being of our community. I believe that everyone deserves to be
compensated fairly for their contributions and thatsalary structures should reflect the value and
significance of each role. By serving on the salary Commission, I aim to contribute my expertise,
experiences, and dedication to ensuring that salary decisions are made with careful consideration,
integrity, and the nest interests of our community at heart.
what skills and knowledge do you hare to meet the selection criteria?
As a former General Manager for Chipotle Mexican Grill, I have honed my abilities in managing complex
operations, ensuringfair treatment of employees, and making strategic business decisions. This
experience has provided me with a deep understanding of wage structures, compensation practices, and
the importa nee of equitable pay. I am well -versed in analyzing data, assessing market trends, and
developing salary recommendations that align with both organizational goals and employee satisfaction.
I led efforts within my district to adjust pay for hourly crew and managers to level my store's
compensation with the surrounding job market.
My experience in tfie private sector led me to pursue EMT trainingta promote health and safety and
assist our vulnerable community members when it matters the most. This endeavor has enhanced my
ability to understand the diverse needs and perspectives of the community, as well as the importance of
fiscal responsibility in the allocation of public funds. I bring a strong sense of integrity, empathy, and the
ability to consider multiple viewpoints when making decisions.
I have served the city previously as the Student Representative to Council for two terms where I became
well -versed with the sheer amount of work behind the legislative and administrative branches of
government, the inner workings of municipal government, and our community's perspectives on
government spending. If chosen for the Edmonds Salary Commission, 1 am committed to ensuring that
the salaries of the mayor and council members align with those of neighboring jurisdictions.
Simultaneously, it is crucial to recognize and appropriately compensate for the demanding nature of
each role. By doing so, we can ensure that the remuneration for elected office does not discourage
potential candidates from seeking public service.

What skills and knowledge to you have to meet the selection criteria? OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
1 have experience working with groups who have different expertise in order to come to a
planning strategy conclusion, An example of this is as follows.
While at King County Metro— I worked with the Strategy and Performance team, that included Business
Intelligence and Strategic Planning — and I participated largely in the creation of the strategic plan and
even moreso in the creation and implementation of the Equity Framework strategic plan. Three
committees were stood up in order to create a short term strategic plan focused on Need and Speed —
identify areas/projects that targeted the areas where needs were greatest and how do we increase the
average speed across the network. One to include speed, one for short term projects and one for mid-
range projects. I was asked to lead the committee focused on midrange projects, defined as more than
one year out, but prior to the next strategic plan. This included bringing in all proposals, creating a
selection criteria, creating a prioritization criteria, and identifying which projects should be moved
forward.
In my career of standing up Business Intelligence programs both in the public and private sector, I am
often asked to absorb and interpret a large about of data and information and provide ways for other
people to quickly understand and interpret the same data using visuals and reports. Because of this, I am
skilled at interpreting information coming from multiple sources, understanding where bias may be
involved in the system and ensure that I am not including additional bias by what information I am and
am not including in the final report.
In working in public service for more than 17 years, I have experience reading and interpreting
government documents. I also understand the need for appropriate bureaucracy —of which planning is
one of them. Without clear zoning and both understanding and communication of the rules, then we
can't grow sustainably, equitably or effectively.
Additional Comments:
i have lived in Edmonds since 2015.1 am proud to live here and I am passionate about community
service. I have worked my entire career in what I consider to be invisible infrastructure. I define this as all
of the things that make our quality of lives better, that we don't want to have to think about every day.
While working for two transit agencies, that meant how we move people around. In my current role, it is
how we move stuff around. i got this passion from my father, who is/was a sewage engineer, meaning
family vacations included touring sewage treatment plants and understanding the impact of living in a
community.
Please reach out if you have any questions or need any additional information.
