The Edmonds Arts Commission is dedicated to the arts as an integral part of community life.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30pm by Song
Land acknowledgement read by Palmatier:
"We acknowledge the original inhabitants of this place, the Sdohobsh (Snohomish) people and their
successors the Tulalip Tribes, who since time immemorial have hunted, fished, gathered, and taken
care of these lands. We respect their sovereignty, their right to self-determination, and we honor their

PUBLIC COMMENT/INTRODUCTIONS: (none)
REPORTS
A. Creative Programs
1. Concerts Schedule Sign Up: Song requested commissioners sign up to host the Sunday
Summer Concerts in July and August, and recommended they also sign up to attend the
Hazel Miller Plaza Summer Concerts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also in July and August.
Responsibilities during the concerts was reviewed, including estimating audience
numbers at the events.
2. Community Fair: Chapin reported that the Community, Culture and Economic
Development Department is organizing an Edmonds community resource fair on Sunday
August 6, from 10am-3:00pm at the Edmonds-Woodway High School Field. In addition
to booths featuring Edmonds organizations, non -profits and businesses, the fair will
feature activities for kids, live music and food trucks. Chapin asked the commission if

they would like to participate with a booth, citing that this is a good opportunity for
outreach and arts advocacy. The commission agreed to participate. Discussion followed
regarding how to effectively communicate the commission's mission and program,
logistics, planning and staffing the day of the event.
Highway 99 Placemaking Opportunity: Chung and Chapin reported that Cultural Services
has been asked to put together a package of art and/or design -enhanced amenities that
can complement the gateway/placemaking program on Highway 99. The City may have
limited funds available to assist with placemaking associated with tourism development.
A list of ideas was discussed, including signal box wraps, banners on International
District poles, and intersection signage that reflects new gateway signs. Chapin
requested additional ideas be sent to her by end of May for compilation by the June EAC
meeting.
4. EAC Retreat Review: Commissioners reviewed the previous weeks' annual retreat, citing
the "Fun Facts" and "Dream Projects" were very good exercises and discussions. Chung
asked to add to list of ideas discussed the inclusion of the City portion of fence along the
Interurban Trail for future On the Fence installations and Sharp added her "dream
project" to add interest to Anway Park by the ferry holding lane with the addition of art
or informational elements that are visually engaging.
Creative District & 41" Avenue Cultural Corridor: Sharp reported the Creative District
committee met to discuss priorities for the new 5-year plan after their retreat in early
March. The goals identified include moving the 4t" Avenue Corridor project forward;
fundraising; district marketing and message; improving community event calendar;
establishing a mentorship/internship/connections program. Chapin reported that she
and Tatum met with the Edmonds Center for the Arts team for 4tn Ave Cultural Corridor
and this group will work with the consultant KPG/Psomas for the duration of the next
phase. Public engagement opportunities will be scheduled later this summer/fall.
B. Capital Projects
Civic Park Grand Opening: Chapin reminded the commission that the grand opening of Civic Park
on June 23 will also be the dedication of that park's public artwork "cascadia: lifeboat and
seawall" by Clark Wiegman. The event starts at 4:00 pm. Installation will take place in late May.
C. Funding and Administration

STAFF REPORT
Rose reported on the following:
• A reminder that the commissioners' assistance will be needed during Write on the Sound in
October, particularly on Sat Oct 7, and end of the event on Sun Oct 8. The online day is
scheduled as a pre -conference event on Sat Sept 30.

Chapin reported on the following:
• Because of the July 4t" holiday, the July EAC meeting will be held Tue July 18 at 5:30 in the
Frances Anderson Center Room 123. August meeting will be canceled. Because of the Labor
Day holiday, the September meeting will be Monday Sept. 11 at 5:30 in the Frances
Anderson Center Room 123.
• $79,000 remains in the City's ARPA funds for non-profit organizations. Application
information can be found on the City's website and the due date is June 9.
NEW/OTHER BUSINESS
Chung reported he has reviewed the EAC's web pages on the City's website and has some observations
to share. He will set up a meeting with Rose to review.
Commissioners reported that the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has designed a new Edmonds map
for distribution to the public and Chapin has requested copies for Write on the Sound attendees.
