Public Hearings: a. Public hearing on the draft downtown parking study. This
(Public participation is welcome) hearing is intended to solicit public input on the issues, findings,
and conclusions contained in the parking study, and will help
the Planning Board develop proposals and code amendments
for recommendation to the City Council. Possible code
changes resulting from the study include:
• Allow all existing downtown buildings to be "grandfathered"
for parking, so that new businesses would not have to
provide any additional parking to move into existing
buildings.
• Adopt a flat parking rate for all new commercial buildings
in the downtown BC zone, thereby removing the need to
review parking requirements for all downtown business
licenses.
• Allow all downtown employees to purchase employee
parking permits.
• Increase the fee for employee parking permits to $25/year.
• Prohibit employees from parking on principal retail streets.
• Charge a higher fine for violations of the parking code.
