6. Council Spotlight-Jenna Nand: Nicole explained that Councilmember Nand is here to acquaint herself
with group and share her vision of how this Commission can support the city. Kevin H. further noted
that he and Nicole are meeting with each Councilmember, the Mayor and election candidates to
explore greater use of the EDC on behalf of Edmonds, as well as discuss current issues. Councilmember
Nand was appointed to Council in October. She's an attorney and works with a lot of creative types in
her day job. She sees the value in building the neighborhood business districts. Councilmember Nand
explained that she sees the EDC as an opportunity to build public outreach and improve public
engagement. She encourages attendance at the Council meetings to provide public comment or
submitting letters to the media with ideas. She suggested that Boards & Commissions seek a written
column in My Edmonds News to build visibility. She holds office hours each Thursday from 4pm-5pm.
Councilmember Olson added that public comment during Council meetings is a valuable time to share
information. Darrol also suggested an alternative way to provide public comment, by sending written
public comments to be read on your behalf at Council meetings.
7. Discussion: Potential Landmark 99 Property Acquisition: Todd and Susan shared a PowerPoint
presentation regarding the potential Landmark 99 Property Acquisition (see attached slides). The
known status detailsinclude a willing seller, and thatwe're in a period of exploration. Susan explained
that the property is CG Zoning - the most flexible zoning in the city, and that no zoning or land use
changes will be necessary to develop the property. The financing strategy will depend on how the
property will be programmed.
8. August Meeting Prep for Walk and Talk at Lake Ballinger: Natalie shared homework for the group.
The purpose is to familiarize yourself with the neighboring communities in that part of the Edmonds
Hwy 99 area. In addition, she asked commissioners to familiarize themselves with the Hwy 99
Community Renewal Plan, including the Findings of Blight section. David Preston asked where success
stories are on Hwy 99? Natalie noted that this area is the largest economic driver of the city as well as
the most populous. She hopes to identify the barriers to invest in this area of the city. Nicole is hopeful
that this exercise will provide information to feed robust discussions about the area. Kevin H. asked if

"The "The Gateway District, located approximately between SW
234th and the 104 Interchange north of
SW 205th St, is the first introduction to Edmonds on
Highway 99. This area was identified in the
Enhancement Study as "Residential Area Retail Center" and
"Hotels Area Improvement". However,
the Edmonds community expressed a strong desire for a
"gateway" and distinct transition point in and
out of Edmonds during a community workshop. A recognizable
marker identifying the entry point to
the city will help unify Edmonds as a place with rich history,
arts, culture, food, and sense of place. "
