In a case where consensus cannot be reached after a reasonable attempt has been made, the Chairperson may call for a majority vote. Approval of Agenda Pam moved to approve the agenda; Ardeth seconded; approved by consensus. 3. Approval of August 2, 2023 Summary: Anil moved to approve the summary; Ardeth seconded; approved by consensus. 4. Public Comment (3 minutes per speaker) None 5. Update from the City: Todd, Megan, Molly & Councilmember Teitzel: Todd gave update on city comp plan, in midst of review through October. November and December will be analysis of information. Todd recommended inviting Public Works to attend a Commission meeting in the future. Councilmember Teitzel gave a quick update on ADA budget and evaluation of priorities. Dean Olson will join us next month to review his ADA requests to the city. Draft Meeting Summary Diversity Commission September 6, 2023 Page 1 6. New Business: a. Budget Update & Considerations: Film Series; promotional materials: Molly gave update on Commission budget through the end of the year. We are waiting to hear back from Rick Steves to see if he will sponsor the Film Series this year. We will move forward with poster printing. The Edmonds Theater increased their rental price from $100 per showing to $175 to cover increased operating costs. Ardeth moved to approve the rental price of $175 for the Edmonds Downtown Theater; Jeanett seconded, approved by consensus. Ardeth and Jeanett agree to distribute posters around the city once printed. Molly will present new sticker designs along with Jessie's existing designs at the next meeting. Molly will research printing costs for stickers and bring to the next meeting. b. Calendar of Diversity Events & Celebrations through end of the year and 1st quarter: Elaine reviewed upcoming holidays and films in relation to the communications calendar. Each film is relevant to a holiday/celebratory event of its month. i. Proclamation of Hispanic Heritage Month: Commission discussed importance of having a city proclamation for Hispanic Heritage month. Molly will draft the proclamation and send it to Todd for review and distribution. 7. Committee Reports: a. Engagement: Nothing additional to report. b. Communication: Molly is working on second newsletter build it's distribution and send; a press release for film series; social/digital publicity of film series; sticker designs. c. Education: Nothing to report; meeting this month fell on Labor Day. 8. Commissioner's Corner (10 minutes) No comments.
