A RESOLUTION OF THE EDMONDS CITY COUNCIL
THANKING COUNCILMEMBER DIANE BUCKSHNIS FOR
DEDICATION TO COUNCIL WORK AND OTHER SERVICE TO
THE CITY OF EDMONDS
WHEREAS, Diane Buckshnis was appointed to Position #4 in January 2010, then elected to
three full terms as a Councilmember, serving as Council President in 2014 and Council President
Pro Tempore in 2018 and 2022; and
WHEREAS, during these thirteen years Councilmember Buckshnis has been on committees,
boards and commissions too numerous to list. She is especially proud that the following citizen
boards and commissions have been created during her tenure: Tree Board, Economic
Development Commission, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Commission, Youth
Commission, and Citizens' Housing Commission; and
WHEREAS, Diane has also devoted her robust volunteer efforts in other areas to the benefit of
Edmonds, including Edmonds Arts Festival, Edmonds Rotary, Edmonds Senior Center,
Edmonds Floretum, Edmonds in Bloom, Students Saving Salmon, and her beloved Off-Leash
Area Edmonds;
WHEREAS, as a councilmember, Diane has been known for asking tough questions,
accessibility and responsiveness to citizens, and insistence that the public have information to
understand the City's financials; and
WHEREAS, her first ordinance was regarding a change to the City's method of financial
reporting. She also promoted the updated publishing of financial statements on the website from
yearly to quarterly reports, and was instrumental in saving the City $5 million dollars when she
successfully challenged the published audit report and submitted her brief to the GASB; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Buckshnis was instrumental in getting the Edmonds Marsh near-
shore estuary onto the WRIA 8 priority list. She has dedicated her time to outside agencies,
keeping Edmonds up to date on regional and state environmental issues, notably; WRIA 8
Salmon Recovery Council on grant funding and legislative sub-committees, and Puget Sound
Partnership Salmon Recovery Council; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Buckshnis has always acted with the highest integrity and passion
for Edmonds; she has especially displayed keen financial intellect navigating Edmonds through
difficult fiscal times, and has never missed the opportunity to remind her fellow councilmembers
of the importance of good policy and good code.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Councilmember Diane Buckshnis be
celebrated for serving on the Council for thirteen years and doing so with tenacity, honesty, and
the best interest of the citizens of Edmonds in all of her actions. The Council wishes Diane well
in her "retirement"; we will see you at the dog park!
