I. ROLL CALL & ABSENCES
Mara moved to call the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.
Eemman read the land acknowledgment statement.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA & APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
Mara made a motion to approve this week's agenda; no alterations. Seconded by Joelle. The
motion passed unanimously.
III. PUBLIC COMMENT
No public comments
IV. YOU'RE NOT ALONE EVENT REFLECTION
Joelle and Casey went to the "You're Not Alone" event meeting and talked about how it went.
Joelle mentioned that it went pretty well, and the main focus was on teenagers' mental and
suicide. She believes that there's a good chance we could partner with them in the future.
V. PICKING A DATE FOR THE IVY PULL
Vote if we should have ivy pull on May 18: most people agreed with it
Final date - May 18, 2024; 10 am- 12am (but youth commissioners show up by 9:30 am)
VI. PAWS FOLLOW-UP
PAWS organizations contact and inform us about the upcoming PAWS event scheduled - take
place in early June at Civic Park.
Paws Civic Park - take care of animals
VI I. FURTHER PLANS / WHAT NEXT
Youth Commissioners' Powers and Duties
1. Serve as an advocate for youth needs and improvement
2. Drafting policy proposals
3. Organizing forums of Edmonds youth to better educate the city
4. Recognize accomplishments of children and youth and promote the value of youth
5. Provide an annual report to the City Council
We should focus on #4.
- Write about the youth event and post on My Edmonds New - give more spotlight
- Instagram posts??
- We can create another position to take care of this
- Host a contest where participants can submit their work and select winner to give them
a spotlight
- April 20th - Earth Day Clean Up
- International youth day - August 12; instagram posts
VIII. PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL
June 4th, 7 pm
Everyone should wear youth commission sweater
We will have a day (meeting) that decide how this presentation should go and brainstorm
