IV. COMMUNITY TRANSIT PRESENTATION
Natalie came to the meeting to talk about community transit.
Two years ago, Washington made transportation free for people under 18.
Today's goal: to feel confident about using public transportation.
Coach operators = same as bus drivers
Community transit helps people go where they want independently and safely.
To start, find a bus stop with multiple bus routes and arrival times displayed.
You can track the bus you need by visiting the transit website and using the "Find My Bus"
feature.
Use "Plan My Trip" to enter your starting location and destination to find the right bus.
If you need assistance, you can always call the customer service number: 800-562-1375.
Once the bus arrives, use your youth ORCA card to scan. If you don't have one, let the coach
operator know when boarding.
Show respect by being courteous, using headphones, and offering your seat to those in need.
Keep an eye on the next bus stop and request a stop by pulling the yellow cord.
Be punctual by arriving five minutes early to avoid missing the bus.
Stay visible by wearing reflective clothing or using a light at night.
Stand back at least six feet away from the curb for safety.
Sitting in the front allows you to ask questions and get help from the coach operator.
Speak up if you notice anything illegal, suspicious, or unsafe to the driver.
V. PLANNING (IDEAS FOR OTHER PROJECTS/START OF NEXT YEAR)
Plan projects for next year
Maybe a senior event again next year?
- Agreed that would like to continue to work with the Waterfront Center, but thought that
the event should be more of a game night.
- Potentially at the beginning of next year to start off with the new commission
Discuss introducing the youth commission on April 26th (virtual) and sharing experiences.
