A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS,
WASHINGTON, RECOGNIZING NATIONAL TRAILS DAY.
WHEREAS the retention and conversion of abandoned railways allows a right-of-way
through urban and rural areas to be utilized for a multi-use trail; and
WHEREAS, trails provide equitable, safe and healthy access to transportation and
recreation for people of all abilities; and
WHEREAS, the Rails to Trails Conservancy is a national organization that has promoted
and supported the conversion of 23,000 miles ofrail-trails across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Interurban Trail between North Seattle and Everett is a regional asset for
both recreation and active transportation; and
WHEREAS, the Interurban Trail has still to meet its full potential as a car-free route of 23
miles between King and Snohomish counties; now therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Edmonds recognizes the role of the Interurban Trail in its
long-term vision to encourage residents to walk, wheel and ride for healthy
recreation and low-carbon active transportation.
Section 2. The City of Edmonds supports a continuous car-free connection
. between Shoreline and Edmonds on the Interurban Trail.
Section 3. The City of Edmonds recognizes April 27, 2024 as National Trails
Day.
