A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING A UW NORTH
SOUND CAMPUS
WHEREAS, the needs of 10,767 full-time equivalent students in higher
education, from Snohomish, Island and Skagit Counties, are forecast to go unmet in 2025
without state action; and
WHEREAS, the Higher Education Coordinating Board reports that area higher
education institutions, like Edmonds Community College, are "effectively full" without "idle
expansion capacity"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds will benefit from computer science and other
polytechnic educational coursework as it develops its fiber-optic broadband capacity for the
benefit of Edmonds' citizenry and economy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds acknowledges the importance of a fully trained
work force to the economy of Edmonds and Snohomish County, and the important role a four
year university in Snohomish County plays in meeting that goal. NOW THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The City of Edmonds fully supports the creation of a UW North Sound campus in
Snohomish County, and respectfully requests that the Legislature make a determination as to
specific location during this 2008 session to assure that classes will commence as soon as fall
2009.

The City of Edmonds fully supports a continued commitment to the funding for a
University of Washington North Sound campus in Snohomish County if the legislature is unable
despite best efforts to determine a specific location during the 2008 session.
