-Whereas, Senator PauCC H. Shin has lived in Edmonds for over 30 years and served his community in
numerous ways. He was born in Korea and orphaned as a young child, he was adopted by an American
Serviceman, he came to the United States in his teens, continued his education by earning a GED, BA, MA,
and finally a PhD.from the University of Washington; and
Whereas, Senator Paud H Shin has dedicated 30 years to future generations by teaching history at Shoreline
College, fulfilling a commitment he made to himself as a young boy to become a teacher; and
-whereas, Senator Paud H Shin has willingly served his community through many community organizations
and has represented Edmonds in the State Legislature for 8 years; and
'Whereas, Senator PauCCH Shin has never forgotten his youth in Korea devoid of opportunity and hope and has
tirelessly worked to see that children of all backgrounds and creeds are given the education promised to
them in Article IX of the Washington State Constitution; and
-whereas, Senator PaufC H. Shin has worked throughout his lifetime to foster better understanding between
Korea and the United States as well as helping Korean Immigrants to better assimilate into American
culture; and
`-whereas,, KBS, the Korean State Television Station, has recently recognized Senator Shin with the 2004 Overseas
Korean of the Year Award, selecting him for recognition from among the 8 million Koreans living around the
world;
Now, Therefore, Be it PesoCved, that the Edmonds City Council and Mayor recognize by Resolution, Senator
Paud H. Shin for his leadership and years of dedication to Edmonds as well as his selection as
Overseas Korean of the Year and thereby wish to express our heartfelt appreciation for the attention,
service, and love that Senator PauCCH Shin has given to the community of Edmonds.
