A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, TO INITIATE A STREET
AMENDMENT APPLICATION FOR THE PROPOSED RIGHT-
OF-WAY OF PIONEER WAY, RUNNING FROM THE
EXISTING NORTHERN LIMIT OF PIONEER WAY TO MAIN
STREET.
WHEREAS, the existing Official Street Map indicates a proposed 60 foot right-of-way to
link the north end of Pioneer Way to Main St., and
WHEREAS, the City and its engineering department have concluded that construction of
Pioneer Way as a through street is not in the best interests of the public health, safety and
welfare, and
WHEREAS, the City would still need to preserve an easement for emergency access to
Shell Valley and for continuing the City's walkway plan, and
WHEREAS, there are both wetland and steep slope critical areas within the bounds of the
proposed right-of-way which the City would like to avoid to the greatest extent possible in
creating a link between Pioneer Way and Main St., and
WHEREAS, the existing 60 foot right-of-way is excessive for what it is actually
presently used and foreseen to be needed, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
City staff is hereby authorized to initiate a Street Map Amendment for the proposed right-
of-way linking the north end of Pioneer Way to Main St. that will consider eliminating the
proposed right-of-way from the Official Street Map as identified on the attached Exhibit A.
