A Resolution Supporting- the Edmonds School District #15 Replacement,
Maintenance and Operations Ievy and the School Construction Bond
WHEREAS, Edmonds School District #1.5 is seeking a positive voter response for the Replacement Levy
which fonds 20% of the educational programs offered to its students, and for the new Bond
for School Construction; and
WHEREAS, the :Replacement :Levy is not a new tax, but a renewal of the current levy approved in 1996
and expiring this year, though it is at a slightly higher rate and will be in place for 4 years
- -1999 -2002; and
WHEREAS, the Bond for School Construction will fund the third phase of a. long range facility plan
developed by the Citizen Planning Committee which calls for the remodel and rebuilding of
five elementary schools and repairs to 24 additional schools; and
WHEREAS, if both issues pass, the tax rate will increase less than $1 per $1,000, from $4.14 to $5.01
and will still be a significantly lower rate than the surrounding districts of Northshore
($5.98), Everett ($6.69), and Shoreline ($6.90); and
WHEREAS, Edmonds School District #15 has an excellent reputation for providing quality education to
its students and for being good stewards of capital funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council believe high quality education produces excellence in our
children and young adults and thus enhances the quality of our cor munifies.
NOW THEREFORE,, be it resolved, that the Mayor and City Council pass this resolution of support for both
the Edmonds School District 15's Replacement, Maintenance and Operations Levy and the School
Construction Bond on the February 3, 1998, ballot.
