IN SUPPORT OFAN 800 MHz SYSTEM
WHEREAS, it has been well established that the VHF radio communication system currently being
utilized in South Snohomish County is no longer adequate to meet the service needs of the
jurisdictions in this area; and
WHEREAS, there is grave concern for the safety and well being of all the individuals providing public
safety services in our community and a desire to maintain the highest possible quality of
response to every emergency situation; and
WHEREAS, the development of an 800 MHz system is seen as the best way to improve the capacity and
capabilities of the communication system in this area; and
WHEREAS, seventeen channels of 800 MHz capacity have been acquired to establish an improved
communication system in South Snohomish County and the Everett area; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council believe that it is essential that the City of Edmonds become a
partner in the creation of the 800 MHz system; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to make a commitment by September 18 if the City of Edmonds is to become
a founding partner in the development of this system, thus avoiding latecomer fees, and to
be accorded the opportunity to participate in the decision - making process regarding all
aspects of the system.
NO W, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of Edmonds desires to become a founding partner in
the Phase I development of the 800 MHz system, which will establish the backbone necessary to provide
services throughout the area.
