CW,lerea-.r, the City of Edmonds established a Sister City relationship with the:City of Hekinan, Japan, in 1988 to
'deepen mutual understanding and sti -engthen /lie ties offnendship between the citlzetts of the two
countries by means of exclianges in the fields of education, the arts, spor -ts, volunteer organizations,
government, hrasiness, and industry , and
( Wherea-f, in July, 1998, in honor of the 1001 Anniversary of the Edmonds /Ilekinan Sister City relationship and
of the 50 ", Anniversary of the City of Hekinan, a delegation from Edmonds was invited to participate
in Hekinan's celebration activities, and the warm, generous .hospitality of the people of Hekinan and
the exchange of art and cultural traditions was an extraordinary experience; and
CWherea-.r, during October 31 - November ,5, we are extremely honored to have Mayor Taku. Nagashima and
distinguished members of his delegation visiting Edmonds and we will share them our. the our t-ich
traditions, vibrant cultural community, and friendly citizenry.
